About By BlackBird Designs
I'm Angela, welcome to my creations!
By BlackBird Designs is a small jewelry company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
All of my designs are lovingly (and sometimes painsakingly!) hancrafted by myself. I love working with various materials such as freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystal, mixed metals (copper and brushed goldtones look so amazing together!), recycled watch and clock workings for my SteamPunk Collection and much more...
People often ask me how I started in fashion and jewelry, and my story is somewhat unique...
After a difficult diagnosis of fibromayalgia (on top of other health issues I have) I had a hard year filled with pain and depression... often bedridden, I started beading and making other crafts. Beading led to metalwork, chain, and eventually spiraled out of control! Jewelry was the silver lining of that painful year and at a certain point I had enough beautiful jewelry to start to sell.

By BlackBird Designs was born!

Now that my health has greatly improved I've had the blessing to expand my colletions! I host individual home parties that have brought me a lot of attention and admirers (thanks ladies!). And I love vending at Festivals and craft shows around Manitoba.
Please view my one-of-a-kind works of wearable art in the "collections" tab of the website and check out the "jewellery art shows" tab to find out the fab insentives to hosting your own jewelry party!
Thanks for checking me out and be sure there is more to come!

BTW: What is SteamPunk?

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery, especially in a setting inspired by industrialized Western civilization during the 19th century. Therefore, steampunk works are often set in an alternate history of the 19th century's British Victorian era or American "Wild West", in a post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has regained mainstream use, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power.

Steampunk recognizably features inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them, and is rooted in the era's fashion, culture, architectural style, and art. Such technology may include fictional machines like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne

Put "steampunk" into Google images for some visual aides!!
